Sumitomo Chemical India's Q2 FY27 call, held on 27 October 2026, was the first under new Managing Director Suresh Ramachandran and came in the weakest monsoon since 2015.

Revenue was ₹907 crore, down 2%, with volumes down by a high single digit, while EBITDA fell 15% to ₹187 crore and margin dropped to 20.5% as costly Q1 inventory flowed through. Net profit was ₹157 crore, down 11%, though first-half profit rose 5% to ₹372 crore, helped by a ₹26.9 crore insurance gain. Specialty brands grew about 22% in value over the half, but exports fell 23% in Q2 as the parent company's overstocking halved shipments to Japan.

The company is debt-free with ₹2,523 crore of cash and investments, but inventory days rose to 115. Management called the second half challenging because of El Nino and low reservoirs, yet expects stable performance, margins in the historical range and inventory to normalise. It launched the Good to Great programme, the Dahej plant is on track for 2028, and semiconductor chemicals remain at talks stage with no role defined. No earlier promises were on file for comparison.
