General Insurance Corporation of India reported Q1 FY27 gross premium income of ₹13,475 Cr, up 8.8%, with profit before tax of ₹2,490 Cr and profit after tax of ₹1,922 Cr.

The incurred claim ratio improved to 85.04% from 90.42% and the combined ratio to 104.88% from 106.94%, and the solvency ratio rose to 4.32 from 3.85. Investment income was ₹3,266 Cr. Domestic premium grew about 12%, led by health, while overseas premium fell about 6% as the company prunes motor, aviation and cargo contracts, and an analyst cited an overseas combined ratio of about 95%. The company provided ₹440 Cr for Gujarat floods.

Management is targeting a domestic combined ratio near 103 and a foreign one of 95 within two to three years, growth of about 10% with a mid-year review, and a credit rating upgrade to A in four to five years. It said competition from abundant reinsurance capacity, including GIFT City, continues, and an IRDAI directive on property pricing is being watched. Consolidated profit was lower than standalone because of losses at the South Africa and Moscow subsidiaries.
